ABOUT THIS WORK: SIGNS OF A NOMOLY
SIGNS OF A NOMALY
Entrenched in a world of machines bearing gratuitous promises and exotic features, I have been developing my own set of devices meant to bring good fortune, heal the sick and bring peace to the world. Signs Of A Nomaly is a collection of photographs inspired by New-Age philosophies, Western and Eastern medicines, conspiracy theories, psychoanalysis and metaphysics.
The collection of photographs includes depictions of performances inspired by healing ceremonies witnessed first-hand, photographic illustrations of people using fictional healing devices , as well as still-life photographs of my own sculptures and a variety of found objects. My interest and research lies in historical and modern day accounts of devices that have been purported to heal or bring instant gratification.
While some of the images are based on historic accounts, others are inspired by strange conspiracy theories. The images are meant to be mysterious cryptic and to conjure-up the idea of the supernatural.
Inspiration for this series is provided by a childhood upbringing surrounded by home-made replicas of healing devices found in the backs of magazines, attending purportedly supernatural events and nights around the table debating conspiracy theories.
